'Kommunikaze' is a three-year diary running from January 1st 1998 to December 31st 2000, a set of writings that introduce the reader to Hall's immense workload and personal development during this period. You follow him during the recordings of various albums and during his literary work, get the inside view on his collaborations with Danish directors such as Ole Bornedal (director of the Hollywood film 'The Night Watch') and Flemming Enevold and are present when he's presented with the gold record award for the 'Boel & Hall' release. The reader follows him on journeys to Berlin, Stockholm and London, witnesses both film- and video recordings, gains information concerning his contributions to international exhibitions and about his many appearances in tv- and radio shows.
In a very direct fashion he comments on the Danish music industry as well as the country's literary circles, his own past and his acclaimed work with the avantgarde ensemble Ballet Mécanique. You also find reflections on such personal experiences as his mother's suicide, everything bound together by one central theme: a constant search for balance in his existence. As a reader you follow the many chaotic expreriences at both close range as well as from the audience's distance - a distance from where it's equally bizarre, entertaining and deeply disturbing to participate. |
