| Recorded and mixed at Custom Sound, winter 1985. |
| Notes: | Recording the 'Relief' album all alone, MH played all instruments "live", with real drums and no programming. It was recorded in January and February 1985, only a few months after his mother's suicide, and the process presented him - by this and other personal reasons - with a lot difficulties.
The album became one of MH's most popular releases during the eighties, but signified the start of a serious re-writing of his life. After the release in May, MH went on with the preparations of his so-called "final" album (the 'Cutting Through' release), finishing these recordings during August and September the same year.
Lyrically 'Relief' represents MH's growing speculations concerning the direction of his life and the more spiritual aspects of it, themes culminating on the following 'Cutting Through' release and his later comeback album 'Presence'. As an example 'Relief' contains the track "Resonance", a classic MH composition written during a stay in Cairo in 1984.
'Relief' was released in Germany like both 'Cutting Through' and 'Random Hold' later would be. |
