INKUBATION

PRESENTATION VIDEO SEPTEMBER 2021

Inkubation (“Incubation”) is a spoken word box set Martin Hall released in collaboration with the electronic musician Thomas Li in the autumn of 2021. The presentation video is an introduction to the work, which was released in a limited edition of 250 numbered copies consisting of a book, two lp’s and a cd. Apart from the physical edition the title is available as an e- and audiobook.

The video is based on a series of photographs taken by Maiken Kildegaard that also serve as illustrations in the book.

SERVICES RENDERED

“Services Rendered” is a limited vinyl edition 12” single. Video filmed by Robin Skjoldborg and Staal Film.

The recording features Eskild Winding (piano), Tinne Albrectsen (violin), Gustav Ranum (violin), Nicolaj Møller Nielsen (viola), Live Johansson (cello) and Andreas Bennetzen (string bass).

The song is based on a recording session made in 1993 with Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on double bass, Jonas Johansen on drums, Jens Albrectsen on piano and Ole Hansen on trumpet. A new vocal was recorded in 2018.

H

VIDEO DOC NOVEMBER 2015

”H” was an installation at The Cisterns in Copenhagen, Denmark, made by Ingvar Cronhammar with original music written by Martin Hall. The site-specific exhibition took place from the 3rd of March until the 29th of November 2015, received a line of sublime reviews and was visited by more than 90.000 guests.

The music is an excerpt taken from the composition “H” which lasts one hour in its full duration. The selected seven minutes feature Daniel Ostersen (boy’s voice) and Lydenskab (ensemble).

EFTERLADT

ALBUM VIDEO JANUARY 2015

Taken from the album Efterladt – a Danish word that means both “abandoned” and “left behind” – a posthumously released spoken word album featuring the Polish-Danish author Janina Katz’ last readings made shortly before her death.

The album is produced and arranged by Martin Hall. The video excerpt “Efterladt VI” features Othon on piano and is filmed by Staal Film.

PROTOTYPE/PROTOKOL

PERFORMANCE TRAILER NOVEMBER 2014

Prototype/Protocol was a performance play combining music, film and recitations, an inter-aesthetic meeting between Martin Hall, the avant-garde ensemble Lydenskab and Staal Film. It was performed during November 2014 at various locations in Denmark and at The Royal Danish Embassy in Berlin.

The cast featured Martin Hall (voice), Maiken Kildegaard (performer), Eskild Winding (piano), Thea Vesti (guitar), Sofia Olsson (cello) and Michael Dinesen/Staal Film (video).

MUTED CRIES

ALBUM VIDEO APRIL 2013

“Muted Cries” is a video feature for the album Phasewide, Exit Signs. The track is recorded in Montreal and Copenhagen with pianist Linus Carlsen and guitarist Johnny Stage.

The video is filmed by the Danish photographer Robin Skjoldborg and edited by Henrik Möll. Additional footage taken from a performance made by Anastasija Kiake.

DEAD HORSES ON A BEACH

“Dead Horses on a Beach” is taken from the album If Power Asks Why, a series of Martin Hall songs recorded by mezzo-soprano Andrea Pellegrini and classical pianist Tanja Zapolski.

The video is made by the Danish photographer Robin Skjoldborg and edited by Henrik Möll.

SERIENUMMER

PERFORMANCE VIDEO FEBRUARY 2012

“Serienummer” is a recording taken from Martin Hall’s and Danish electronica artist Tone’s collaboration at the Apart Audio-Visual Festival at Platform 4. The full concert performance is available on the album Performing Apart.

“Serienummer” features a recitation made by German litterateur Herbert Zeichner. The video is supplied by Paul Nere, based on archive footage.

SALON MIDWELT

TELEVISION TRAILER OCTOBER 2010

During the autumn of 2010 Martin Hall presented a new talkshow on the Danish television channel DK4 called “Salon Midwelt”. The show featured once a week presenting two new guests every time, profiles such as the present Danish Minister of Cultural Affairs, Sandra Day and Miss Fish.

The trailer is made by Danish photographer and filmmaker Territorium.

IMAGES IN WATER

LIVE PERFORMANCE OCTOBER 2009

“Images in Water” is a live recording taken from the DVD Live at St. Paul’s (released 2010). The musicians accompanying Hall are Johnny Stage (electric sitar), Henriette Groth (piano), Ida Bach Jensen (double bass), Karoliina Koivisto (violin), Carla Kuotila (cello), Mikkel Meyer (electronics) and Sisse Selina Larsen (drums and percussion).

The concert was recorded and sent as a broadcast show on DK4 and the televised sequence is directed by Dean Strange.

ALBUM VIDEO FEBRUARY 2009

“P.O.” is taken from the Martin Hall album Hospital Cafeterias and features legendary Danish avant-garde composer Else Marie Pade (1924–2016) on electronics.

The video is directed by the Danish fashion photographer and design analyst Erik Hansen-Hansen and caused quite a media stir at the time of its release – as an example YouTube banned the recording due to its “offensive content”.

TOUT LE MONDE

SESSION FOOTAGE NOVEMBER 2007

“Tout le Monde” was recorded with the herostratically famous pianist Marquis Marcel de Sade, the quintessence of original Danish celebrity culture, in relation to Martin Hall’s retrospective box set Catalogue in 2007.

The video footage is filmed during the rehearsals for the song.

Irma Victoria performing “September Song” (originally recorded in 1994), a song included on the memorial album Finest Moments and Famous Last Words released in 2001.

Irma Victoria (1923-2000) made a series records with Martin Hall from 1989 onwards. Her career highlight was an official Grammy nomination in the category “female singer of the year” in 1991. The other two nominees that year were multi-platinum act Hanne Boel and legendary The Savage Rose singer Annisette.

ANOTHER HEART LAID BARE

Second single taken from the album Random Hold released in 1996. After its later release in Germany, Austria and Switzerland the album has slowly gained international recognition.
